• Starting from metabolism and selection pressure (rather than subjective experience)
• Explaining consciousness through genesis rather than teleology

Consciousness is not a special gift of the universe, but a form of agency that naturally emerges in the process of life's complexification.

A true science of consciousness must return to this path of materialism.
